A letter to Congress

Dear Congress Person / Senator,

Soon you will be asked to vote on a badly needed health care reform, which will potentially reshape the health care and health insurance industries for the better. I strongly urge you to pass the most aggressive health care reform bill, which must include a subsidized public option, as long as the public option means that one can purchase affordable health insurance from a non-profit, government managed health insurance services provider entity.

Congress must fight for the United States of America to allow its Citizens the option to obtain health care and health insurance while being able to bypass the flawed health care insurance providers industry, thereby making access to health care services a subsidized right, and no longer solely a purchased privilege, of which the ever rising costs seem to be exclusively determined by private entities’ concerns with profitability and shareholder imperatives.

Just as public and private schools can coexist, so should public and private health insurance options for all Americans. A public option will be instrumental in injecting plausible competitive dynamics into the industry, thereby effectively pressuring private companies to no longer deny service or drop coverage for individuals when they deem it potentially harmful to their bottom line. The quality of our health care should be shielded from the profit margin or share holder equity requirements of a private company; it should be a right to all US Citizens.

Like many of my friends and family, I believe this pending vote is a unique chance, within a small window of opportunity, which you must enthusiastically seize to pass this legislation.

Thank you and best wishes with this pivotal vote.

Fredo Martin
